CURRENT RESEARCH
Current research has found that 1 out of 110 individuals in the United States are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Many professionals in the field of special education and related services continue to find no known cause or reason for this increase in diagnosis. Due to this increase nationally, there is a need for more support for families of individuals with autism.
Professionals in the field of special education have found no scientific study or evidence of a single service delivery model for teaching individuals with autism and related disorders being better than the other. CIO believes that it is unrealistic to assume that one service delivery model's intervention or instructional approach can meet all of an individual's specific needs.
According to the Council of Exceptional Children, service delivery model support strategies used to teach individuals with special needs should be research based, non-aversave, and should not undermine the dignity of the individual.
